HCMC delays truck ban on roads near airport to Oct

09.09.2016

Truck ban on Truong Son Street has been delayed until October 2016.

Transport firms operating at Tan Son Nhat Airport have complained that the ban will affect goods transport to and from the airport as well as production of enterprises.

HCMC Transportation Department said that they would conduct trucks ban on the streets around  Tan Son Nhat Airport to improve traffic flow. In particular, from October 9th, on Truong Son street (from the intersection of Huynh Lan Khanh Street and Truong Son Street),  all kinds of trucks will be banned from traffic from 6h00 to 22h00 in the direction from the intersection Huynh Khanh Lan to Truong Son - Hong Ha - Bach Dang. Aim to limit the truck from Tan Binh district circulated through the Truong Son to get into Pham Van Dong Street.

However, the trucks ban is accidentally pushed logistic companies operating in the airport area into a difficult situation. Mr. Nguyen Cao Cuong, General Director of Tan Son Nhat Cargo Service Co., Ltd. (TCS), said that TCS is located at No. 46 Hau Giang, Ward 4, Tan Binh District is providing cargo handling services for 33 domestic and international airlines with more than 250,000 tons of cargo per year.  Especially, TCS now is providing cargo handling services for Samsung’s factory in HCMC, with over 1,000 tons per month.

"If the trucks ban_ from passing through the Truong Son road from 6h00 to 22h00 every day, all activities of TCS will face to many difficulties. Not only TCS but also all transportation companies and factories within the southern region are under bad effect, "Mr. Cuong shared.

On 8 September, Southern Airport Authorities hold the meeting with relevant companies to collect recommendations and proposals. After the meeting, HCMC Transportation Department representatives agreed to delay trucks ban from 6h00 to 22h00 from 10 September.

Mr. Tran Quang Lam, Deputy Director of the HCMC Transportation Department, announced the replacing plan will be re-discussed and deployed in October 2016. The Trucks ban on Truong Son road can be applied only at rush hours from 10h00 to 12h00 and from 16h30 to 19h00.

The trucks used Truong Son Street to come from Tan Binh Dist. to Go Vap, Thu Duc Dist. ... will be hourly limited. The cargo trucks are operating in Tan Son Nhat airport will be licensed to traffic without restrictions.

Also will consider to close the taxi parking area at 58 Truong Son, pass to the domestic terminal’ garage to avoid the congestion.

Now, the number of vehicles traffic on Truong Son street spikes, especially when Pham Van Dong road was completed. The statistic shows that over 50% of cars and 80% of motor used Truong Son Street without entering to Tan Son Nhat airport, which caused serious traffic congestion on this road in rush hours.
